What am I? How do I work? 🙂

  • I’m a robot worker that supports nighttime staff in nursing homes by checking on residents every 15-20 minutes. No special training, caregivers just use my app.

    1. Install me in a spare room during the day with access to electricity, I sleep here.

    2. Night staff tell me to start via a smartphone kept in the nursing station.

    3. I check the corridors and tell staff about wandering residents via the Bearcover app.

    4. I stop outside closed doors and scan inside without disturbing residents.

    5. I check residents every 15 to 20 minutes and tell caregivers if residents are actively moving.

  • My creators (Bearcover GmbH) have a patent-pending solution that uses UWB radar sensors to detect human movements — even very small ones — through closed doors.

I use this information to tell caregivers if people are moving around or out of position in a room at nighttime.

  • I can detect large movements like walking through obstacles up to 8 meters, and I’m currently learning how to see people who aren’t moving too — whether they’ve fallen or are in bed.

I don’t store any personal information about the residents (e.g. name) and the radar data I collect is anonymous by design.

  • Yes, completely. The radar solution is similar to WiFi and poses no harm to people. I’ve worked 1000s of hours and have had no complaints from the residents I care for.

The value I bring to nursing homes

20x more checks

I complete up to 40 checks per resident per night, i.e. a check every 15-20 mins.

Redesign care delivery at night

My automatic checking frees staff up to move within the facility at night. You may decide to reallocate caregivers to new areas or different shifts.

Reallocate work from day to night

With more time saved for night staff, shift more daytime administrative work to nighttime.
